End of Summer, August 2014

August has flown by, some of the leaves are changing colors, so Fall is definitely just around the corner. The mornings are crisp but still enjoying nice weather...and while it continues, I say "keep on, keeping on!" We're continuing with our missionary work. Teaching, sharing the good news of the Gospel, helping where we can.

A few pictures to remember some of the events of our end of summer month. As we were out trying to locate our members, we discovered this beautiful piece of art and we noticed several others afterwards in other places. Clever idea!

It's a garden party and the Relief Society activity for the month of August. We enjoyed lots of different kinds of salads, delicious sherbets, beautiful surroundings and fellowships with the sisters of the Clark Lake Ward.

Our Ward mission leader, Mike Smith invited us to dinner along with the young sisters and Sister Keele and I jointly blew out the candles on the delicious cake Sue Smith had made for the occasion (I just didn't take any pictures). I did take a picture on my 72nd birthday. What a wonderful thing to be doing on your birthday...serving on a mission!
Alisa sent me a picture album, popcorn and CHOCOLATE!
I was able to visit with some family during the month and that is always such fun and a way to stay connected. Dave and Connie Peterson (Rog's brother and his wife) came to the Northwest and I was lucky enough to be able to have a birthday dinner with them at Ivars, a round of golf (beautiful course, but no proof as I failed to take any pictures...my score was definitely nothing to shout about either) with them and Mitch Parker, and lunch afterwards. What a treat! Thank you Petersons! The end of the week we were able to go to the temple for the sealing of Mitch and Brittany and enjoyed a dinner and lovely reception with all their friends and family. A bonus for me was that my daughter, JaneAnne, and her children traveled up from Portland to attend the reception. So fun to see them.

Labor Day, and we're into September! I'm so grateful to be able to work and to enjoy work, whether for the Lord or myself! We also enjoyed a barbecue that day. The grills were going and there was tons of food and it was delicious.

We finally made a visit to Clark Lake. The lake wasn't really big or really beautiful, but the surrounding area made it a nice place to walk and get our morning exercise in.

We have had a wonderful district of Elders and Sisters and this was about the last one we'd have together as transfers are coming up and one of them will be returning home as he completes his mission, so took a picture. Hard to get everyone to be serious, however!

At our meeting with all the seniors today, we bid farewell to a couple that have been of great service to the mission. We will miss you Elder and Sister Evans.

It's wonderful to be a missionary. Hope you all will have the opportunity some day to do the same. Sending love to all my friends and family!
