Summer Fun

Sometimes, I think we should be "singin' in the rain" as the weather has really been somewhat odd this year. The garden is still looking a little bewildered by the lack of warmth and the abundance of moisture. It will be interesting to see if we get any produce.

Things haven't been all that exciting or new or different, but life continues to be enjoyable. The twins are growing and doing well...they're going on 9 lbs and about 7 weeks old now.

We were able to get away for a few days to the beautiful state of Colorado. We went with Rog's brother, Dave and his wife, Connie. The boys fished and the girls shopped. That's a fair trade, isn't it? The only difference is that we were able to bring things home to enjoy down the road and they just have memories and satisfied stomachs from eating a few fish and catching many more.

We were there over the 4th of July and we were able to attend church and hear great testimonies expressed about our freedoms and how wonderful it is to be an American. We also heard a little bit of some Americana when we watched a USO performance. I really appreciate the military and the sacrifices they made and continue make to keep our country free.

The 15th, we headed to Oregon, Sun River to be exact for some fun in the sun and a great reunion with all our family. We managed to do all sorts of things in spite of weather that was cool and rainy the first five days, we were there. But then, this is Oregon, and we should be used to that, shouldn't we? You'll see from some of the pictures that our tennis games were played amongst puddles of water and very soggy balls, but it didn't dampen our spirits at all. Biking, swimming, game playing, singing (this is one of my most favorite parts and we recorded Alisa and JaneAnne doing some of the Lakme duet and our family rendition of Black Bird) and charades, as well as tennis were all part of the agenda. The grandkids did shrinky dinks, played air hockey and got plenty of cousin together time, so it was a fun time for everyone.

Pat and Andy's beautiful surroundings; great to relax on the hammock

We next went to Stayton and had some good times with long-time friends. Andy is one of Rog's fishing buddies and they did a quick float with Andy's drift boat while Pat and I made lots of freezer jam with delicious Oregon berries. We also took time to share some of our experiences and thoughts about missionary work with the Stayton Ward where Andy is the bishop.
A day's worth of making freezer, berry jam. Yum!

On July 25th, we had another opportunity to share pictures and experiences from our Armenian mission with friends from the Salem 4th Ward as we enjoyed a lovely BBQ and get together for Family Home Evening at Neil and Dianne Lathens. We love sharing our experiences and hope it will spark some interest in them to also want to serve.

So far, it's been a wonderful summer and we hope all of you are enjoying similar experiences. We send our love to you all.
